GOA - Pearl of the Orient
GOA
The "Pearl of the Orient" as it is known, Goa occupies a prominent place on the tourist map of the world. Long stretches of Calangute, Colva and Vagator beaches, Dudhsagar and Arvallem waterfalls and Mahavir and Bondla Wildlife sanctuaries enhance the scenic beauty of this territory. The Basilica of Bom Jesus and Se Cathedral Churches at Old Goa are famous for their intricately carved wooden altars made by Goan craftsmen. Ponda Taluka has 7 temples within a radius if 5 Km. The most interesting is the tiny but exquisite Shri Manguesh Temple on green hills, dedicated to Lord Shiva. This temple boasts of its giant silver statues, old local chandeliers, tiles on walls and the tall and elegant deepastambha (lamp post) at the entrance. Goan food is delicious with rice and fish being important components of the diet. Languages spoken are Konkani, Marathi, Hindi, English and Portuguese. According to the 1991 census this tiny state of 3,702 sq.km. has a population of 11,69,793.
During October temperature during the day goes up to 30° C and mercury drops down to 24° C in the night.
