The paper analyses the concept, architecture and development state of the subsystem of the problem-oriented applications (SPOA) as functional element of integrated information technology for oceanographic data management (sea paper =ABIntegrated information technology for management, processing and analysis of oceanographic data=BB, N. Mikhailov et al, RIHMI-WDC/NODC Russia) of this Symposium.

SPOA is aimed at implementing the analysis and interpretation of data (hydrometeorology, pollution, geology, ice condition etc) in order to obtain new information about marine environment state.

The SPOA consists of database, the base module and the analytical modules. The key feature of the SPOA is the link between the analytical module and other subsystem objects. A special interface pseudocode was developed to support this link. The management of data and tasks in SPOA is executed by base module using a special set of tools: Navigator, Working map, Scenario editor and Report collector.

Prototype of this subsystem has been created with using GeoInformational System (ArcView GIS 3.0 including Avenue, Spatial Analyst, Dialog Designer) and applied software for statistical calculation and modelling of hydrometeorological characteristics.
