Modern research vessel systems are designed to gather high-density environmental information from a variety of hydrographical, oceanographical, chemical and physical sensors. Scientific users demand easy and flexible access to such cruise data independent of the specific nature of the specific sensors used.

The ATLAS HYDROMAP is versatile, custom-tailorable software environment for real time data acquisition, online quality control, nautical control- and information, as well as a fully equipped postprocessing system for spatial datasets. Besides many more applications the system fully supports any kind of swathe bathymetry survey work including:

ECDIS chart display and track planning,

Multibeam echo-sounder control and operation,

Survey data acquisition and online quality control,

Data management, archiving and retrieval,

Data validation and editing,

Chart data mapping and presentation.

A unique graphical user interface enables even the novice user to easily understand and safely operate the system. A variety of online plausibility tests continuously monitors the active sensors as well as any kind of user commands. Online as well as post processing information can be distributed across the vessels network to all interfaced sub-stations.

Gathered data are managed and stored in an internal Sensor-Independent-Rawdata-Format (SIRF]. Data retrieval is accomplished by means of flexible user-adaptable database routines. A variety of data analysis and presentation tools including the generation of digital elevation and contour models are provided.
