The MARCHEM program, written in GW-BASIC© (1988) language, requires 128 KBmemory for its compiled version to run on an IBM or compatible personal computer and a 80 x 25 VDU. The program was written with a purpose to compile different routines and launch them from within a single program. A number of routines could thus be accommodated in the program and run with the help of a menu served on the screen. In its present version the program contains some routines useful for computations involved in physico-chemical and carbon dioxide studies.
The program has seven components. In the written program code they appear as introductory screen, menu server, help subroutines, file handler subroutine, quit or continue option, 19 main routines and 7 subroutines. The interactive file handler subroutine is generally applicable in other programs written GW-BASIC©.
As a prerequisite, an input file has to be created before running routine. Input file structure input parameters and their units can be viewed by using help. A loop structure in main routines obviates the need for dimensional arrays, thus enabling the program to run with any size of the input file. The modular program structure provides foe easy insertion or deletion of routines from the program. These facilities have greatly increased the utility of the program..
The program also provides on-screen full reference to the work on which the computational algorithms are based. The screen also provides with computational approach, units of variables and check values. Results are printed on the screen and written to an output file.
Keywords that are not common to GW-BASIC© and MS-DOS QBasic© languages are avoided in the program. 7he program, therefore, can be run from either application or compiled to create a stand-alone application.
