"KD PERANTU" - A MODERN SURVEY VESSEL FOR THE ROYAL MALAYSIAN NAVY WITH INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY INCORPORATED

Kapal Diraja Perantau, built at Hong Leong Lurssen Shipyard Sdn. Bhd. in Butterworth Penang, is undergoing final phase of constructions and trails before delivery is made to the Hydrographic Directorate of the Royal Malaysian Navy in the third quater of 1998. A replacement for the old KD PERANTU, she is equipped with the latest state-of-art technology to undertake hydrographic and oceanographic works designed for her and is further enhanced by the information technology incorporated in the ship surveying systems for speedy, accurate and reliable results. The ship's system consists of sub-units, for various tasks to be performed, including the local area network, interface processor, server computer, hydrographic survey system and navigation system. Data transfer between ship and land based system can be achieved via satellite communication link that is availble onboard. With the ratification of UNCLOS III, the main area of operation of KD PERANTAU is expected to be Malaysian EEZ.
