The satellite remote sensing, with its synoptic view a,-,id capabilities to give spatially continuous data on a repetitive basis has increased the possibilities of studying Ocean and Ocean-Coast interaction, inventory and monitoring resulting coastal features. Macro level data from the satellite remote sensing has to be combined with microlevel data from field investigation to get the complete information about the coastal features. The present study combines these two approaches to investigate the dynamic changes occurring in the Netravathi-Gurpur river mouth in Dakshina Kannada District, West Coast of India.
Macrolevel study has been conducted by using IRS-IA LISS-11 (1988), IRS-IB LISS-11 (1 994) data along with Survey Of India toposheet (1 912). Field studies were conducted to provide the ground truth data regarding river mouth changes and the sediment samples were collected and analysed at selected stations for a period 3 years for microlevel study.
The macrolevel and microlevel study reveals that
